Contribute to Sarisari

Filipino life is not one story. Sarisari is being built to make room for different voices, experiences, and perspectives, from the Philippines and from communities around the world.

As the publication grows, we hope to welcome contributors who bring curiosity, care, and something meaningful to share.

A story can start close to home

You do not need a famous subject or an extraordinary journey to have an idea worth exploring. A thoughtful story might begin with a family tradition, a community project, an everyday challenge, or a question you cannot stop asking.

We’re interested in specific experiences rather than claims to speak for every Filipino. What have you noticed? Who could help readers understand it? Why does it matter?

The ideas we hope to explore

Stories: Personal experiences, community life, family, belonging, and the connections people build across places and generations.

Culture: Food, language, traditions, creative work, and the ways heritage is lived, shared, and reimagined.

News: Carefully researched developments relevant to our readers, supported by clear sources and a distinction between reporting and opinion.

Music: Artists, listening, discovery, local scenes, and the stories behind the sounds that matter to people.

Sports: Athletes, local teams, volunteers, participation, and the community connections beyond the scoreboard.

Different starting points are welcome

Some future contributors may be experienced writers. Others may be community members with a perspective they have not written about before. We want this invitation to leave room for both.

Living overseas, growing up in the Philippines, or discovering a connection to Filipino heritage can each offer a different starting point. None needs to stand in for everyone else.

What makes a thoughtful idea

A useful story idea explains its focus in a few sentences: what it is about, why it matters, and what you can bring to it.

For a personal reflection, that might be an experience and the question it raises. For a reported feature, it might be the people you hope to speak with and the information you plan to check.

Be clear about what you know firsthand and what still needs research. Avoid presenting imagined conversations or unverified details as fact. A small, well-supported story is more valuable than a sweeping claim.

Care for the people in the story

We want to approach people and communities respectfully, take care with sensitive experiences, and recognise the work of others. That includes checking facts, acknowledging sources, and considering whether a detail genuinely needs to be shared.

If a story involves someone else’s private experience, their comfort and participation deserve thoughtful consideration. An interesting story should not come at the expense of the people who make it possible.

Submission details are coming

We’re still preparing our contributor process and are not opening submissions through this page yet.

Before inviting work, we’ll add a clear way to contact the publication and explain the formats we can consider, the review process, and any relevant arrangements. Please wait for those details before preparing a full piece specifically for Sarisari.

For now, this is an introduction to the kinds of voices and ideas we hope to welcome, not a promise of publication or a request for unpaid work.

More voices, a fuller picture

Sarisari is beginning small. In time, we hope the publication will reflect more of the variety in Filipino life: familiar experiences, unexpected perspectives, and stories that help us understand one another better.

If you have an idea taking shape, keep a few notes. There are many stories still to tell.
